Fred Badje of German Township While on His Way to Germania With a Load of Hogs, Was Instantly Killed by a Bolt of Lightning.

During the electrical storm of last Saturday evening, Fred Badje of German township, son of C. Badje, while on his way to Germania with his father with two loads of hogs, was instantly killed by lightning. The bolt struck him near the right ... and scattered throughout his body, causing instant death. His father was ahead of him a few rods with a load of hogs, and as he came within a few rods of John Sttenhard's place, three miles south of Germania, the bolt of lightning struck Fred and ...azed his father. Mr. Badje knew that there was something wrong and turned into the gate at Steenhard's. As he turned his boy Fred reeled ... the spring seat and dropped dead. An examination was made about the wagon and not a place could be found where the bolt had done any damage. The horses hitched to the wagon were all right and the hogs in the wagon box were no more than a little stunned. The whole force ... the bolt of lightning, it seems, was spent in the body of Fred and did no other damage.

Fred asked for a clean shirt just before he started for town, remarking that he did not know what would happen before he returned home, we are told. Fred was a model young man and everyone he knew was his friend. He was just 18 years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home of his parents, and interment took place at the Germania cemetery. The Topic ... joins the family and their many friends and sympathizes with them ... their bereavement.
