MRS. CARL BADJE RITES SATURDAY AT M.E. CHURCH

Bertha Catherine Mayers was born in Dangast, Germany, February 12, 1856, and passed away at her home in Titonka, Iowa, July 3, 1940, at 1:30 a.m. after a severe illness of several months, aged 84 years, 4 months and 21 days.

She came to the United States as a young woman on May 1, 1895 and was united in marriage to Carl Badje in June 1895. Forty five years of her life were spent in this country. She moved to Titonka 22 years ago, after a residence of several years in the country.

Mrs. Badje was educated in Germany. Her chief interest was gardening and the cultivation of flowers, in which she took special delight.

She was a good wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her loved ones, who believe that God has sent His Angel of Death to lead her into that land of light and beauty, where "the wicked cease from troubling, and the weary are at rest."

She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two daughters by her first marriage, Mrs. Ella Gutchnecht of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Pauline Cox of Dike; two step daughters, Mrs. Millie Phelps of Phoenix, Arizona, and Mrs. Mary Snittjer of Wellsburg, Iowa; two step-sons, Peter Badje of Dike, and John Badje of Rake; 23 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

"There is no death! The dust we tread
Shall change between the summer showers
To golden grain or mellow fruit
Or rainbow-tinted flowers
"There is no death! The leaves may fall,
The flowers may fade and pass away,
They only wait, through wintry hours
The coming of the May.
Born into that undying life,
They leave us but to come again;
With joy we welcome them the same,
Except in sin and pain.
And ever near us, though unseen,
The dear immortal spirits tread,
For all the boundless universe
Is life, there are no dead!"

Services were held Saturday, at 1:30 at the Badje home, and at 4:00 at the Methodist church. The body was interred in the Lakota cemetery. Music was furnished by a ladies duet, Mrs. Faye Callies and Mrs. Marioan Hoon, accompanied by Mrs. Lenore Schram. Pallbearers were Fred Stecker, Fred Henken, John Isebrandt, Folkert Stecker, Ben U. Meyer and Fred Anderson. Rev. W. L. Patterson, pastor of the Methodist church officiated.
