Guilford P. Paulsen, 91, a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, passed away Saturday, April 2, at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.

The son of John P. & Ida Jensen Paulsen, he was born November 14, 1902, in Graettinger, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from high school. He then went on to Cornell College at Mount Vernon (Iowa) and graduated in 1925. He was a former Major League Baseball pitcher and played with St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers during his athletic career. Guilford was an avid sports fan his entire life. He was elected to Cornell's Hall of Fame and received a special award in 1974. Guilford was united in marriage to Viola I. Reimer, September 27, 1948. He was a hearing examiner for the Washington State Patrol.

Guilford is survived by his wife, Viola and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Esther Anderson.
