Steve Alan Rogers, age 52, of St. Augustine, passed away on March 2, 2010.

Born and raised in Jacksonville, he was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, where he lettered in track, baseball, basketball and football. He then attended the U.S. Naval Academy where he was quarterback for the football team and then transferred to the University of Georgia on an athletic scholarship, where he played quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs for two more seasons.

Steve was an incredible athlete with a charismatic personality. He was a talented salesman and worked for many years as a Lumber Broker.

He was an avid golfer, and participated in many fund-raising charity tournaments in support of various organizations such as St. Judes and Georgia Lettermans Club. Above all, Steve was a wonderful father, husband and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Fran Rogers of St. Augustine; daughters, Mallory Rogers and Sydney Rogers, both of Neptune Beach, sisters, Janet McKinnon of Jacksonville and Joyce Schilling of Colorado; a brother, Richard Rogers, Jr. of Maryland; his mother, Margaret Rhodes of Jacksonville and his father, Richard Rogers, Sr., also of Jacksonville.

Steve is at peace now, and a celebration of his life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010 at The Rite Spot, 1534 N. 3rd Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory and in honor of his mentor, Russ Foland, can be sent to the American Red Cross Volunteer Life Saving Corps, c/o Red Cross Chapter House, 751 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32204.
