Major (Retired) Deryl Keith "Pete" Gunn, age 63, of Ozark, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Gunn was born November 28, 1946, in Windsor, Missouri to the late Emory Cable Gunn and Beatrice Paxton Gunn. He served in the United States Army with tours in Vietnam and Korea, retiring from the Army National Guard in Montgomery with the rank of Major. He worked at Fort Rucker as a primary helicopter instructor pilot for the past thirty-four years. Mr. Gunn raised polled hereford cattle on his farm in the Brown's Cross Roads Community. Survivors include his wife, Genie Joines Gunn of Ozark; one daughter, Julia Anne Gunn of Spring, Texas; the Mother of his daughter; Anne Cash Gunn of Spring, Texas; two stepdaughters, Theresa Grider of Pooler, Georgia, and Deanna Turvin of Webb, Alabama; one stepson, Jason Grider of Athens, Illinois; one brother and sister-in-law, George Robert and Becky Gunn of Montgomery, Alabama. Six grandchildren also survive.
