World War II D-Day Veteran & Florida Alpha Brother Brigadier General Harold Mace, U.S. Army Air Forces, 47, died in Manila, The Philippines as a result of a single, self-inflicted gunshot.

In 1929, Harold graduated from University of Florida, where he was a brother of the Florida Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) Fraternity. By 1943, then-Colonel Mace was Commander, 416th Bombardment Group, 9th Bombardment Command, 9th Air Force, and he led his men on missions in Normandy on D-Day.

In AUG 1944, Harold received orders to serve as Commander, 98th Combat Bombardment Wing. Soon after that he was promoted to Brigadier General. At the time of his death, Harold was serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, 7th Air Force. You can pay respect to Brother Mace & more than 220 additional SigEp Patriots buried / memorialized at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
