Lieutenant (Junior Grade) E. W. Litch, USN, was designated Naval Aviator #3117 in 1924. Graduated U. S. Naval Academy in 1919, Class of 1920 (graduating one year early due to the World War.)

During World War II, Captain Litch commanded the fleet carrier USS LEXINGTON (CV-16). Promoted to rank of Rear Admiral, also commanded a carrier division of escort carriers. Retired in 1954, with the rank of Vice Admiral.
