Ret. Maj. George M. Korycinski, 66, of Solvay and Sackets Harbor, passed away Monday at home with his family at his bedside. George bravely battled lung cancer for more than two years. A US Army veteran of 20 years, he served two tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He was highly decorated with medals, including both the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star. CLOBFLAG He was an avid reader, military history buff, outdoorsman, target shooter and car enthusiast. His memberships included the VFW, American Legion and the NRA. He enjoyed summers at his cottage on the lake at Sackets Harbor. He loved animals and leaves behind his three dachshunds. He was predeceased by his parents, George J. and Naja Ellen (Patapow) Korycinski.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 46 years, the former Sheila Kinahan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Marie "Monkey" and Johnny Slavnik, of Va. and Dixie and Patrick DeLutis, of Solvay; four beloved grandchildren, Shane and Brooke Slavnik, Ashley and Dominic "Doc" DeLutis; two brothers, David (Karen) and Mike (Lucia) Korycinski; several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Va. In keeping with Mr. Korycinski's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 9 a.m. Friday in St. Cecilia's Church, Solvay. BAGOZZI- TWINS FUNERAL HOME, Solvay, has care of arrangements.
