Andrew Lee Slater Jr., 66, of Tallahassee, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2009, with his family and close friends at his bedside. The service will be Sunday 2 p.m. EDT at St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church in Miccosukee with burial at Concord Cemetery in Miccosukee. Viewing-visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Tillman Funeral Home (850-997-5553) in Monticello. Andrew was born and raised in Leon County, where he attended public school. He worked for Waste Management for more than 15 years. He will be missed by his devoted companion, Katherine Andrews and her daughter, Helen Andrews; his mother, Martha Slater; siblings, Dorothy Warren, Marie Dunn and Betty Lee Collins, Hattie Lipscomb, Louise (Lionel) Evans, Martha (Tyrone) Woods, Silas Slater and Willie (Elaine) Costa; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Andrew Lee Slater Sr., and his brother, Jimmy Costa.
