Bess was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Goldsmith. Bess married Myer Minsky. They had no children.

Bess was very active in the Jewish community; Bangor Chapter of the Hadassah, New England Region of Hadassah, Beth Israel Synagogue, B'nai B'rith Chapter, Beth Israel Jewish Synagogue Sisterhood and the Jewish Communit Center. She was organizer of fund raisers for various health agencies.
