Sister Maria Cecilia MacMillan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Saturday evening, September 10, 1988 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.
Daughter of the late Alexander John and Mary Jane Cameron MacMillan, she was born on July 12, 1899 in Rossland, British Columbia. She entered the IHM Congregation from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on October 9, 1922, was received into the novitiate on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924.
During her long and distinguished career as a music teacher, Sister Maria Cecilia served as a teacher at Marywood Seminary in Scranton; and Marywood College in Scranton. An accomplished organist, she made invaluable contributions to the liturgical life of Marywood College and of the IHM Congregation.
She is preceded in death by five brothers, Sheldon, Justin, George, Neil and Reverend Robert.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be at Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
