He died Monday in Columbia.
Born in Angola, N. Y., he was a son of the late Dale N. and Alfield Larsen Hanks.
He received the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit with one Oak Leaf Cluster and the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters.
He was a graduate of University of Maryland. He was a Mason and a member of the Carlisle Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth G. Hanks; one son, Nicholas D. of Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Cathy E. Hanks of Columbia; and three grandchildren.
