Navy Command Master Chief Petty Officer Garber was assigned to the Dwight D. Eisenhower in the North Arabian Sea. He was found nonresponsive in his stateroom when found at 8:15 a.m. Medical teams responded quickly but he was declared dead eight minutes later. Natural causes were blamed. In December 1983, Jeff enlisted into the Navy's Delayed Entry Program in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and began basic training in September 1984. His assignments included time aboard the cruiser Worden; the carrier Nimitz; the dock landing ship Portland; and service as the command master chief of Strike Fighter Squadron 34, the "Blue Blasters." He reported to his current assignment as Command Master Chief Carrier Airwing 7 (CVW 7) at Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia in June 2008. Jeff's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal; Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (two awards); Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (six awards); Navy Good Conduct Medal (six awards), and various other unit and service awards. His advanced qualifications include: Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, Enlisted Warfare Specialist and Master Training Specialist. Survivors include his wife, Amy, and his three children.
