College Head to Conduct Rites
MERCED, Feb. 20 - Funeral services for John Prince Smith, Inyo County pioneer who died here Monday morning following a long illness, will be conducted by Dr. Tully Knoles, president of the College of the Pacific at Stockton, at the Ivers and Alcorn parlors in Merced at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with burial to follow in Asphodel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be W. L. Rowen of Modesto and W. R. Ford, George Clark, Fred Walker, Clarence Jones and V. L. Jones of Merced. Mrs. W. L. Brown will sing. Smith came to this county seven years ago from Inyo County. He was a retired rancher, and took an active part in activities of the First Methodist Church and the Woodmen of the World lodge. John P. Smith was born on Prince Edward Isle, and died from asthma on 19 Feb 1933, aged 71 years, 7 months, and 25 days. His late residence was in Merced. Interment #387 was on 20 Feb 1933 in Asphodel, Lot 7, grave 282, stone.
