The daughter of Charles Heinrich "Carl" Gerling and Anna Friederike "Caroline" Niehaus, Alvina was baptized "Alwine Louise Maria Gerling" on 09 Sep 1883 at Salem Lutheran Church in Black Jack, St. Louis County, Missouri. Her sponsors were Anna Meyer and Maria Warmann.

Alvina married Charles Heinrich Wilhelm "Carl" Albers, Sr. on 06 Nov 1905 at Salem Lutheran Church. They were the parents of at least 4 children, and Carl was a farmer in north St. Louis County.

At the time of her death, Alvina was 94 years, 5 months and 17 days old.

She was survived by 2 daughters, Edna Albers and Hilda Kuhn; 1 son-in-law, Richard Kuhn; and extended family members.

In addition to her mother and father, Alvina was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; 1 daughter, Selma Albers; 1 son, Charles Albers, Jr.; 1 brother, Louis Gerling; and 3 siblings who died in early childhood.

Visitation was held at Hutchens Mortuary on Graham Road in Florissant, Missouri on 12 Jan 1978. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon at Salem Lutheran Church in Black Jack.

Alvina was buried next to her husband, Carl, who passed away in 1933.
