Mr. John Marion Slaton, 93, of Madisonville, KY, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at 7:00 A.M., at NHC Healthcare in Madisonville.

Born February 3, 1914, in Hopkins County, KY, he was the son of the late James Edmond Slaton and Amelia Denton Slaton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Erma Slaton, three sisters, Nora Lee Anderson, Lanna Pearl Scott and Evelyn Slaton and one brother, Albert Slaton.

He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he had been a deacon since March 30, 1958. He was a retired coal miner and farmer. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Madisonville Masonic Lodge #143.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Breedlove Slaton of Madisonville; one daughter, Marilyn Strayn of Madisonville; two sons, Dr. Monroe Slaton and Norris Slaton, both of Madisonville; one brother, Joe Slaton of Providence, KY; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 5, 2007, at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Leonard and Bro. Tondra Daugherty officiating. Burial will follow in Browder Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scott Slaton, Jason Slaton, Jared Drennan, Jana Strong, James E. Slaton, John T. Slaton and Susan Marie Jarvis. Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Winstead, Turner Slaton, Lane Slaton, Bailey Slaton, Morgan Strong, Jaiden Strong and Jace Drennan.

Memorials may take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
