"John R. Collier was born March 7,1850, in Hancock County, Indiana, and passed away March 8, 1932, at his home eight miles west of Chardon at the age of eighty-two years and one day. He went to Iowa in 1889 and homesteaded. On November 27, 1870, he was united in marriage to Ruth Jane Conkwright of Albia, Iowa. To this union were born five children of whom two survive. On August 1, 1889, his wife passed away and one child, William, who died in infancy. He united with the Christian Church at Dewees, Nebraska, in 1879. He and his children moved back to Monroe County, Iowa, for a three-year residence. In 1884, he came to Nuckloos [sic] County, Nebraska, and located close to Dewees. On Februaiy 28, 1900, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Doty of Beatrice, Nebraska. To this union two children were born. In 1902 he came to Rawlins County and
homesteaded the place on which he lived until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Smith of Pueblo, Colorado, and a son, Cyrus C. of Hagler, Nebraska. He leaves to mourn his death three daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Garver of Chardon, Kansas, Bessie and Alice of Atwood and one son, John, of Chicago, Illinois. Also nine grandchildren, one of whom, Leigh Garver of Concordia, Kansas, was present at the funeral. Services were conducted at the home by Rev. Canaday of the Stevens Chapel Church. He was laid to rest by the side of his mother, Jane Collier, in the lllian Cemetery." ATWOOD
