JAY C. HARRIS, private first class in the U.S. Marine Corps, met his death during his first battle and lived by a few hours after being fatally wounded in action in the south Pacific.

He was twenty years old and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Harris, Wabash. Pfc Harris was born in Roann, Sept 27, l923, attended Wabash schools and worked at the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator plant before entering service in Dec 1942.

Pfc Harris, who was among the first county casualties, was killed in Dec 1943 after being overseas since Sept l943.

JAY C. HARRIS, USMC, TO BE GIVEN MILITARY SERVICE SATURDAY.
The body of Pfc. Jay C. Harris, World War II veteran to be returned to Wabash for burial will arrive in the city Friday afternoon over the Wabash railroad at 4:44 o'clock. It will be taken to the Hoover-Miner Funeral Home where services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body will be escorted by Marine Sgt. Lewis W. Johnson.

Young Harris, the son of Kenneth and Helen (Holderman) Harris, was fatally wounded in action in the south Pacific and died Nov. 20, 1943 on Tarawa. Before entered the Marine service on Dec. 7, 1942 he was employed by the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Company. He was born Sept. 27, 1923 in Roann.

In addition to the parents he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Robert Stouffer, Urbana, Betty and Helen Jean, and four brothers, James, Jack, Jerry and Jon, all at home.

The Rev. G. Ben Hershberger will officiate and the American Legion will conduct full military services at the graveside in Falls Cemetery.
