GREW UP IN LOS ANGELES AREA.
HER PARENTS ARE JOHN AND THELMA WHITAKER. SHE HAS 4 SISTERS AND 3 BROTHERS. SHE MARRIED DENNIS WHITE IN THE LDS TEMPLE IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA AND THEY ARE THE PARENTS OF SIX CHILDREN -- JIMMY, DAVID, ANNA, AMBER, SARAH AND AARON.
OTHER MEMBERS OF FAMILY WERE -- STEPHEN WHITAKER, JOHNNY WHITAKER, BILL WHITAKER.
HER SPECIAL LOVE WAS MUSIC. HER LIFE'S CREEDS WERE: GROW WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED AND WHEN LIFE HANDS YOU A LEMON, MAKE LEMONADE.
SHE WAS A RN AT COLUMBUS REGIONAL HOSPITAL ON THE ONCOLOGY, MEDICAL AND SURGICAL UNIT.
AT 7:30 A.M., HER SOUTHBOUND VAN COLLIDED WITH A NORTHBOUND SEMI. SHE DIED INSTANTLY.
SHE SANG IN THE CHOIR AT IUPUI IN COLUMBUS.Sherrie Lynn Whitaker (White) grew up the oldest of eight children, and her motherly instinct was nurtured from a tender age. She married while attending Brigham Young University , and shortly thereafter moved to Azalia, Indiana where she put down her roots and raised 6 children in a home of faith, love, and hard work. She worked part time as a registered nurse at the Bartholomew County Hospital in Columbus, Indiana, where she touched thousands of peoples' lives in assisting terminally ill patients and their families. She loved working in her herb garden, canning, playing the guitar, and singing with her husband and six children. She led the family on walks, bike rides, and picnics in the various parks surrounding the Columbus area, especially Brown County State Park. In 1989, her family was recognized as family of the year by the local newspaper in Columbus. She held numerous LDS church callings in different wards and branches in the area, but was always first a wife and mother. She tragically passed away at 41 years old in a car accident on her way home from a late night shift at the hospital. Thousands of people paid their final respects to Sherrie at a viewing the night before the funeral, where once again over 1,000 people overflowed the local LDS chapel to remember the life of this wonderful woman
