- Col. Benj. Bowering, Native of City, Dies; Arlington Rites Held -
Funeral services were held last week for Col. Benjamin Bowering, 58, retired Army
officer, who died on November 1 in the Army-Navy Hospital at Hot Springs, Arkansas.
A native of Fredericksburg, he was the son of the late Andrew Benjamin Bowering, who was commissioner of revenue here for over 50 years.
He was a graduate of VMI and a veteran of both World Wars. His last Army service before retirement had been in California.
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Gladys Bowering, of Hot Springs, and a nephew, Fred C, Hayes, of Washington, and an uncle, Hampton Bowering.
Burial was in the Arlington National Cemetery. The Free Lance-Star, November 10, 1952.

[YOB is incorrect on marker application, therefore, it was etched incorrectly on marker stone. His birth cert, WWI enlistment, and other military records state YOB as 1894. Otherwise, he'd have been born 6 months after his mother died.]
