Stanley F. Barnett, 84, of the Weatogue section of Simsbury and formerly of Avon, husband of the late Pearl (LeBlanc) Barnett, passed away Saturday, (August 1, 2009) at McLean in Simsbury.
Born in West Hartford, son of the late Al and Leah (Clarke) Barnett, Stanley served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre where he participated in action against the enemy at Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima.
He was a member of the Iwo Jima Survivors Association and Gildo Consolini Post # 3272 VFW, Avon.
After the war he served as a recruiter for the U.S. Marine Corps in the Baltimore area where he met his first wife, now Winifred Zembower of Weatogue.
He and his brother operated Barnett Brothers, building and developing property in both the Avon and Newington areas, and he also volunteered as a Supernumerary police officer in Avon until appointed full time in 1970 retiring as a Detective in 1994.
His police career spanned over 30 years and included serving on the Avon Police Department with his daughter Brenda and son-in-law Tom.
He also served as sexton, caring for St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Avon for 22 years.

He leaves his children Brenda Transue and her husband Thomas of Avon; Scott Barnett and his wife Kris of Simsbury; and Stacey Burke and her husband Sean of Jensen Beach, FL; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a sister Rena Parracino of Manchester.
He was predeceased by brothers William, Alexander, Duane and sisters Dorothy and Irene.
