Mrs Audrey Mae Oxford, age 73, of Pryor, passed away Friday, January 5, 2001 in Mayes County Medical Center following a short illness. Mrs Oxford, the daughter of Percival Williard and Esther Pauline"Ruegge" Rider, was born in the family home in the Pleasant Hope Community, northwest of Adair on May 1, 1927.
Funeral services for Mrs Oxford was conducted today, Tuesday, January 9, 2001, 11:00am, in the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church, northwest of Adair, with Dr Sam Garner and Rev Marty McCord officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Hope Cemetery with Billy King, Brett King, Lance Oxford, Kyle Knott, Travis Lary and Travis Pathkiller serving as casket bearers. Funeral services were under the care of Garner's Jim Green Funeral Home,Pryor.
Audrey was born and raised in the Pleasant Hope Community, Northwest of Adair. She graduated with the Adair High School Class of 1945. Audrey married George Lewis Finnell, Jr. in Joplin, Missouri on May 8, 1947. She lived briefly in Joplin and Blythe, California. She later married Clarence Eugene"Gene" Oxford. And in 1955 the couple moved to Pryor. Audrey was a longtime member of the Immanuel Baptist, Pryor where she taught a younger girls Sunday school class for many years. She was also a member of the Decedents of Nancy Ward Association. Audrey was a long time health care professional in Pryor having worked as a dental assistant, nursing assistant and nurse. Following her graduation from NE Vo tech nursing class she became a licensed Practical Nurse in 1978. And for over 17 years served her nursing profession at Mayes County Medical Center before retiring. Audrey was a wonderful Christian lady who continually gave of herself to others. Those who were under her care always sensed that extra gift of sensitive caring and understanding she gave.
