The two boys had a fever (it was measles) and Mama and Papa Hart went to town, leaving Alma and Lela to care for the boys. It was hot in the house but cool and rainy outside, so the girls took the boys outside to cool their fever. That caused them to get pneumonia and they both died within two days.
