John A. King Buried Friday At Dodsonville
Resident For Past Twenty-Five Years Dies Last Thursday Evening
Funeral services for John A. King, 84, early Dodsonville settler, were held from the North Baptist Church in Dodsonville Friday afternoon, Dec. 4, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. S. T. Greenwood of Alanreed, assisted by Rev. Barber of Dodsonville. Mr. King died at his home in Dodsonville Thursday night around 9 o'clock, following a period of poor health for the past five years.
A native of Texas, Mr. King was 85 years, six months and 10 days of age at the time of his death. Coming to Dodsonville 25 years ago in December, Mr. King farmed four miles west of there for a long while and later moved into town, where he still resided at the time of his death. He is preceded in death by his wife, formerly Mrs. Rendy Kenzie, who died in 1931. Mr. King came to this county from Clay County. He was a member of the Baptist Church, having been converted 39 years ago. Mr. King was widely known over the entire county, and more especially in the Dodsonville area, where he resided so long. Hosts of friends grieve his passing and will remember him as a good neighbor and a staunch citizen.
He is survived by two sons, L. C. King of Dodsonville; J. H. King of Holliday, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. G. F. Wright of Wellington, and Mrs. D. A. Kimbrough of Buffalo Spring, Texas.
Hymns were "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" by choir, "Saved by Grace," a solo by Mrs. Wes Morrow, and "Where We'll Never Grow Old," duet by Mrs. Wes Morrow and Mrs. 0. 0. Adams. Pallbearers were Paul King, John King, Larence King, Ted King, Lowell King, and Gus Brannum. Flower bearers were Opal Clement, Nona Belle Harris, Lucille Harris, Winona Harris, Zoe McKinney, and Miss Smith.
Interment was made in the Dodsonville Cemetery by Wellington Funeral Home.
