Captain Samuel Legg, Esq., (ca. 1640-10 Jan 1705/6) is the son of the immigrant John Legge (ca. 1610-5 Jan 1673/4) and Elizabeth Melinda Cole (abt 1608-abt 1698). Samuel was a Mariner out of Boston. Upon his death, he was buried in the Granary Burial Ground in Boston; however, some years later another person was buried over him in the same grave.
Samuel's father, John Legge, of London, arrived with the Winthrop Fleet as an indentured servant of John Humphries (one of the main leaders of the expedition). He settled first in Lynn, MA; he was declared a Freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony on 5 May 1635; and he pursued the career of a Mason. John and Elizabeth had four known children: Samuel, John, Daniel, and Ann Mary.
Samuel married Deliverance Thayer (b. abt 1647) about the year 1668. They had seven known children:

4. Isabella Legg, b. 1677
5. Daniel Legg, b. 1682
