Funeral services with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. today November 2, 2007, at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.

Paul Elston was born in Paulding Co, Ohio. During the Great Depression his family moved to the Albion, Michigan area. In Aug 1942 he was drafted and went through boot camp at Fort Custer, MI. He received additional training as an Engineer at Camp Claiborne, LA before shipping out to Australia in 1943. After arriving in Sydney, he was transferred out of the Engineers and became a medic with the 119th General Hospital. He saw action in New Guinea, and the Philippines. While sitting on a ship waiting to disembark at Tacolban, Leyte, Philippines he witnessed Kamikaze aircraft hit all the ships around his. He stayed in the Philippines until the end of World War II and returned home to Michigan in December 1945. After the war he raised 8 children.
