A native of Augusta County, he was born Dec. 26, 1910, a son -of Mrs. Lottie (McCue) Garland of Staunton and the late Edward Herman Garland. Mr. Garland was employed by Crompton Shenandoah. Co. of Waynesboro for 33 years until he retired in 1965. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elliott's Knob Aerie 680, and a member W St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dolly (Armentrout) Garland; two sons, Carl Jr. and Brian S. Garland, both at home: two sisters, Mrs. Louise Wine of Rt. 6, Staunton and Mrs. Dorothy Layman of Fishersville, and one brother, Freddy M. Garland of Staunton.
A funeral service will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock in the chapel of the Fred Henry Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by Dr. John R. Sawyer. Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Glen A. Ashby, Ward W. Redifer, P. R. Knowles, Clarence D. Truxell, Charles A Tabor and Ward E. Rankin.
Honorary pallbearers will be James J. Handy, Charles E. Robertson, John C. Linhoss, Sidney L. Stover Max Lockridge, William R. Leach Jr., Harold B. Marshall, George 'B. Harris Jr., Guy E, Westhafer, Francis Kelley, Elmer L. Sensabaugh, Carl C. Fox and Clifton McCune.
Friends will be received at the Fred Henry Funeral Home tonight from 730-8:30 p.m.
