just over 106 years old. Although can't put my hands on his obit, I do have two
others that put him over the 100 mark.

HAPPY HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY
James M. Caldwell of Wedowee is celebrating the 100th anniversary of his
birth today, Wednesday, Feb. 2 at the Randolph County Nursing Home, where he has
been a patient since Nov. 16, 1971. Although he stays in his bed all of the
time now, by his own choice, he is mentally alert and responsive. Those who
wait on him report that he is an ideal patient-----courteous, considerate and
good-natured.
Mr. Caldwell, a native of Clay County and a retired farmer, has been a
Randolph resident for a number of years. Before coming to the nursing home, he
was residing with his daughter, Mrs. Early Burroughs of Wedowee. His wife died
about six years ago [1966]. There are two sons, Hoyt Caldwell of Rossville, GA
and William Caldwell of Sand Mountain, and one other daughter, Mrs. Bodie Jones
of Cragford. Younger decendants include 22 grandchildren, 38
great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
The secret of Mr. Caldwell's long life? We didn't hear it from him, but
conversation with grandson Bobby Burroughs gave the impression that hard work
and physical activity have had a lot to do with his reaching the rare age of
100. He worked hard in yard and field until about three years ago, and
frequently walked to town.

TWENTY YEARS AGO
Not many Americans have lived through their country's centennial observance
and also its bicentennial observance, but Randolph County's Joe Holmes has, and
so has his roommate at Taylor Nursing Home, "Uncle Jimmy" Caldwell. Mr. Holmes
celebrated his 101st birthday anniversary on July 8, Mr. Caldwell his 104th
earlier this year
