Ruth's legal name was Marie Ruth (Probstfield) Evans, however she used the name of Ruth Marie.

Conde - The funeral for Mrs. Cyril (Ruth) Evans, 80, Conde, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton. The Rev. Edgar Probstfield and the Rev. Regis Probstfield will officiate.

Burial will be in the Conde Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Paetznick-Garnes Funeral Chapel of Groton.

A scriptural wake will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church in Conde.

The family is requested to meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, and prior to the wake service at the church in Conde.

She died in St. Luke's Midland Regional Medical Center in Aberdeen Friday, June 12, 1992.

Ruth Marie Probstfield was born April 15, 1912, in Oshkosh, Wis., to Paul and Christine (VanHatten) Probstfield. She attended schools in Verona and Monett, Mo. In 1934, she came to work for her uncle Barnabus VanHatten on a farm near Conde.

She married Cyril Evans in Conde Feb. 9, 1937. They farmed in the Stratford and Conde areas.

She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Conde, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, South Dakota Flying Farmers and Ranchers, Home Extension Club, Conde Senior Citizens, Playmor, Dunker and Pioneer Bridge clubs and was active in the American Cancer Society.

Survivors include her husband of Conde; three sons, Vernon Evans of Redfield, Maurice Evans of Willmar, Minn., and David VanHatten of New Brighton, Minn.; one daughter, Sister Francene Evans of Worthington, Minn.; five brothers, Ralph Probstfield of Whittier, Calif., Lawrence Probstfield of Verona, Clarence Probstfield of Bakersfield, Calif., the Rev. Edgar Probstfield and the Rev. Regis Probstfield, both of Fort Yates, N.D.; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Caroline) McNerney of Mount Vernon, Mo; and 16 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter and four brothers.

Casketbearers will be grandsons, Monte, Chad, Adam, Eric and Jason Evans and Tom VanHatten.

Organists will be Patty Hearnen and Marvel Troske. Duet will be by Dianne Evans Steger and Rod Evans.

Living with them were son Paul Jr., 20; daughter Ruth, 17; son Edgar, 16; daughter Caroline, 14; son John, 11; son Ralph, 9; son Lawrence, 7; son Clarence, 5; son Victor, 3 yr 2 mo; and son James, 1 yr 7 mo.

09 Feb 1937: Cyril and Ruth married at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Conde, Spink County, South Dakota. Rev. Felix McCabe officiated their wedding. They had planned to wed on 08 Feb 1937 but were unable to get from the farm to Conde due to snow. Their wedding was witnessed by Aubra Evans, Cyril's brother, and Marian Van Hatten (24 May 1920 - 18 Mar 1999), Ruth's maternal 1st cousin.

The 1940 US Census shows that Cyril V. Evans, 29, and wife Ruth P. Evans, 28, lived in La Prairie Township, Spink County, South Dakota. Living with them was daughter Francene E. Evans, 2.
