Suggested edit: Vera F. “Sook” Bates, 86, of Pocola died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, in a Pocola nursing home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pocola, a homemaker and a retired nurse from the former Booneville Tuberculosis Sanatorium.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pocola First United Methodist Church with burial at Macedonia cemetery in Pocola under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Balty Bates, and her brothers and sisters, Earnest Karl, Earl F. “Bud” Karl, Esta Oliver, Chloe Brown and Thelma Campbell.
Pallbearers will be Wayne and Don Becker, Jerry, Tommy and Jeff Brown, Sonny and Lindle Oliver, Paul Karl, Allen Jackson and Mitchell Riley.
The body may be viewed from 1 to 9 p.m. today.
The family will visit with friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
