On 17 Jan 1945 his parents received word from the War Department that their son, Pfc. Delmar M. Schauster was reported as " missing in action" since December 17th in the Belgium area of the war.
Mrs. Effie Schauster received a telegram on 25 June 1945 making it positive that Delmar who was previously reported missing in Action was killed in Action on 17th December in Germany.
Re-interment took place on Sunday 1 Nov 1948 after services at St Paul Church in Highland.
An article in the 10/6/1948 Edwardsville Intelligencer, pg. 1, describes how the bodies of local area war dead were being returned to Madison County for burial. Delmar's remains were among those listed in the article.
