Funeral services for Peter A. Christopher, 90, a resident of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with a graveside service conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 346.

Visitation will be Monday at the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m.

Mr. Christopher died on Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus.

Peter August Christopher was born Sept. 23, 1908, in Moline, the son of Olaf and Hilma Nyquist Christopher. He married Helen W. Kehoe June 27, 1949, in Davenport. They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in June.

Mr. Christopher had been employed for 27 years at Sear's Roebuck, retiring in 1974 as a department manager.

Peter was very proud of his service to our country. He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He had been a radio operator on a B-29 and had flown 28 missions. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, four Battle Stars, Oak Leaf Cluster and a Presidential Citation. He had also flown over the Battleship Missouri when the terms to the peace agreement was signed.

He served as Davenport's 7th Ward Alderman from 1972-74. He had also been on the Fire and Police Retirement Board for the city of Davenport.

He was a member of the Moose, American Legion Post 246 and AARP.

Memorials can be made to the World War II Memorial or the Salvation Army.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; daughters, Patricia Goodwin, Moreno Valley, Calif., Jackie Lynne Christopher, Rock Island, and Deborah Christopher, Dunstable, Mass.; sons, Richard Christopher, Greensboro, N.C., William Christopher, Blue Grass, and Joseph Christopher, St. George, Utah; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers. May they rest in peace.
