Daighter of Thincy Adeline Lucas. Was living with her daughter, Bessie Hinton, in West Monroe, at the time of her death. She loved orange slices (the candy) and peppermints. She was a very sweet, loving mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Appy Smith, 83, Buried Dec. 3 At Friendship Funeral services for Mrs. Appy L. Smith, 83, wife of the late Owen P. Smith, were held at 2 p.m. December 3, 1956 at the Friendship Baptist Church near Sikes. Rev. Louis Moffett, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Friendship cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons: James E. Gates, Junior Thompson, Audrey Dulaney, Kenneth Smith, and James Hinton. Mrs. Smith was born and reared in Winn Parish and lived over half her life here. At the time of her death she was a resident of Monroe. She was the mother of 13 children, eight of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Rosa Gates, Mrs. Mary Gates, Mrs. Ruby Dulaney, all of Sikes; Mrs. Bessie Hinton, Mrs. Vera Kelley, Mrs. Victor Smith, all of Monroe; Mrs. Lessie Anders of Jonesboro, and Mrs. Avena Chitty of Gonzales, La. She also leaves 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
