He was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Idamay, a son of the late Martin and Mary Cevencik Pitek.
Frank was a veteran of World War II, having served as an infantry rifleman in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Theatre of Operations. His service included combat in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, where he was the recipient of two bronze battle stars, also receiving the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze battle star and three overseas service bars.
He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served until 1946, worked briefly for Ford Motor Co. until his subsequent hospitalization in 1950 due to conditions incurred as a result of his military service. He remained hospitalized until his death. He was a beloved father and a true servant of God. He will be sadly missed by his daughter and family that truly loved him. Survivors include his only daughter, Jeanne M. Pitek Poniewasz and husband Tim of Clarksburg; his only grandson, Timothy John Poniewasz II of Georgia; a brother, Joe Pitek and wife Kay of Taylor, Mich.; two sisters, Christine Sievert of Michigan and Josephine Sholtis of Uniontown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Martin, Steve, Andy, Mike and John Pitek; and four sisters, Anne Mascioli, Sally Karpiel, Mary Balas and Veronica Pitek; and his former wife, Virginia Lucente, who died July 6, 2006.
Friends may call at Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A biblical wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Farmington with the Rev. Father Douglas B. Sutton as celebrant. Mr. Pitek will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Clarksburg.
