John m. by early 1671, the widow Hannah Pond, dau. of Sgt. John Griffin and Anna Bancroft, b. July 4, 1649 at Windsor, Conn. She d. at Simsbury before Jan. 10, 1698/9. They had seven children b. at Simsbury, Conn.:
• i. Dea. John Humphrey, Jr., b. Nov. 18, 1671, d. intestate Dec. 31, 1732 at Simsbury, Conn., Æ 62; m. July 6, 1699 at Simsbury as her 2nd husband, Sarah Mills, dau. of John Pettibone & Sarah Eggleston, and wid. of John Mills, b. Sept. 24, 1673 at Windsor, Conn. She d. at Simsbury Apr. 3, 1748, Æ 81. Four children of the family. Sarah m. 1) Nov. 4, 1690 at Simsbury, John Mills, s. of Simon Mills & Mary Buell, b. June 23, 1668 at Windsor, Conn. He d. intestate at Simsbury Mar. 11, 1697/8, Æ 30. By her first husband, Sarah (Pettibone)(Mills) Humphrey had four children.
• ii. Mary Humphrey, b. Apr. 14, 1674; m. Samuel Gridley [more later].
• iii. Thomas Humphrey, b. Sept. 1, 1676, d. intestate Oct. 23, 1714 at Simsbury, Conn., Æ 38; m. a Hannah by whom he had four children. She m. 2) James Cornish. [more later]
• iv. Abigail Humphrey, b. Nov. 8, 1678; was not included in a 1706 distribution of her father's estate.
• v. Nathaniel Humphrey, b. Mar. 3, 1679/80, d. intestate bef. Nov. 11, 1711 at Hartford, Conn., the date of his estate inventory, Æ 32; m. Mar. 14, 1708/9 at Hartford, Conn., Agnes Spencer, dau. of Samuel Spencer & Sarah Meakins, bapt. Nov. 20, 1687 at Hartford (1st Chh.) She d. at Hartford Apr. 11, 1773, Æ 86. Two children of the family. Agnes m. 2) Lieut. Jonathan Hubbard, s. of Samuel Hubbard & Sarah Kirby, b. in Aug. 1691 at Hartford. He d. Feb. 14, 1744/5 at Wintonbury Parish, now Bloomfield, Conn., Æ 54. Agnes had six children by her second marriage.
• vi. Capt. Samuel Humphrey, b. circa 1684, d. Sep. 20, 1725; m. Mary Eno, dau. of James Eno (James,1) and Mary Bissell, b. May 5, 1691 at Windsor. Five children of the family. The widow Mary m. 2) Ens. Joseph Cornish, by whom she had two additional children.
• vii. Joseph Humphrey, who has no record of birth or death, but likely was living on Apr. 14, 1726; he was named as a child of his father in the latter's estate record; he signed on Jan. 11, 1711/12 as the heir of his deceased mother regarding sale of his maternal grandfather's land at Simsbury; was named in the Feb. 1718/19 initial estate distribution of his dec'd father-in-law Thomas Kelsey of Windsor; m. Abigail Kelsey, dau. of Thomas Kelsey and Elizabeth Maskell, b. of record Apr. 10, 1692 at Simsbury. She d. his widow at Simsbury Mar. 17, 1760. At least three, possibly four, children of the family.
