Mr. Thomas Nathaniel Allen, 82, of Pinnacle, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Allen was born in Surry County on March 7, 1927, to the late George Nathaniel and Eunice Scott Allen.

Mr. Allen served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for the public school system and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Allen is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Allen Medina of Kernersville and Shannon and David Haynes of Pinnacle; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Edward and Judy Ferster and Michael Wayne and Jennifer Ferster, both of Shallotte; 10 grandchildren, Brook, Joseph, Matthew, Thomas, Rebekah, Jonathan, Olivia, Hannah, Wayne and Daniel; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ocie Merritt of Kernersville and Rae (Melvin) Merritt of Francisco.

Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his loving wife, Annette D. Allen; his parents; grandson, D.J. Haynes; and one brother, Gurney Allen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Faith Independent Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Hewett officiating with interment to follow in the Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors by VFW Post 2019 of Mount Airy and VFW Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home and other times at the home of Shannon and David Haynes.
