Stella E. Stangel, age 90, of 18906 Tisch Mills Rd., in Tisch Mills, entered into eternal life on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Laurel Grove Assisted Living Facility in Manitowoc.

She was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Kewaunee, to the late Wenzel and Elisabeth Pilzak Schlies, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of the Kewaunee High School and attended the Business School in Manitowoc. She married Eugene P. Stangel on May 18, 1946, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Stangelville. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2009. Stella was employed by the J.J. Stangel Hardware Store, and for the F.W. Stangel General Store in Tisch Mills, for many years. In 1980, she began working at the former Two Rivers Savings Bank in Tisch Mills as a branch manager. She was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Nativity of the BVM Catholic Church in Tisch Mills and a member of the Rosary Society of the church. Stella worked as a volunteer in many capacities. She enjoyed visiting and socializing with people, and possessed a rare combination of sincerity, openness, and genuine caring. She could sit for a few minutes with a new acquaintance and create a lifelong friendship. The special light that Stella brought to this world will be truly missed.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Rita and Francis Valenta, of Tisch Mills; three sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas and Yong Mi Stangel of Evans, Ga.; Gene and Mary Stangel, of Manitowoc; Donald and Lori Stangel, of Greenville, Wis.; five grandchildren: Rick Valenta and his special friend Julie Rosner, Cheryl (Steve) Trippler, Jason Valenta and his special friend Dawn Marquardt, Alyssa Stangel, Chelsea Stangel; three great-grandchildren: Kyle, Josie, and Dawson. She is further survived by three sisters: Bea Porubcansky of Manitowoc; Clara Jurgens of Manitowoc; Rose Prokash of Shawano; a brother-in-law: Ed Mleziva of Luxemburg: two sisters-in-law: Rose Schlies of Stangelville; Evelyn Schlies of Brillion; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers: Edward and Wenzel Jr.; and by two sisters: Mary and Eva.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at St. Isidore the Farmer, Nativity of the BVM Catholic Church in Tisch Mills with the Reverend Dennis Drury officiating, assisted by Deacon Robert Pribek. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (TONIGHT) at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State St., Mishicot. There will be a 6 p.m. parish wake service tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church, until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.

The Stangel family wishes to express a very special thank you to the doctors, and entire staff of the Holy Family Dialysis Department for the past 11 years of dedicated service. They also wish to thank the entire staff of Laurel Grove Assisted Living for all of their care, love and concerns shown to Stella and our family during her residence there. You kindness will always be remembered.
