Death in Kiel yesterday morning of 71 yr. old Mrs. John Barth, one of the first female settlers in Town Schleswig, of inflammation of the lower abdomen. She and her husband had suffered the privations of the pioneer life in the woods near Schleswig. She is survived by her husband and 5 children. The eldest son has lived far away for the past 15 years.

Mrs Catharine Barth
As we were going to press, we heard that, on Tuesday August 24, at 10:15 PM, Mrs. Catharine Barth, the wife of John Barth, who had reached the age of 71 years 9 months and 25 days, had died. The deceased was ill with Colera Morbus.
In the month of May 1853, she married John Barth in Rottenacker, Wuttemburg,where she had been born and raised. The next day the newlyweds left for America. Three grown sons. Brutus, Cesar and John and two daughters, Dora and Lisbeth,as well as her husband are mourning her loss. Four children preceded her in death.
The burial will take place on Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the farm to the Rockville Cemetery. Our condolences to the family.
