Following his death at his home in Indianapolis Wednesday, James M. Hoover, age 95, was buried at Fairview cemetery beside his wife and his daughter, Nellie. Only immediate relatives of the Civil War veteran were president. Funeral services were held in Indianapolis Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock.

The deceased never lived here but was well known here many years ago. He married Henrietta Haskett of this county and after living in Benton county for many years, retired from farm work and lived in Kokomo where his wife died many years ago. He moved to Indianapolis and later was married for the second time and the widow is surviving.

Mr. Hoover was the father of five children, Horace of Lafayette, Mont of Wabash, Rev. Albert Hoover of Bunker Hill, Homer of Texas and a daughter, Nellie, who died in this city in 1908. The daughter made her home here with Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Ramsay.
!The Tipton Daily Tribune - 17 Mar 1940, Friday, p.7)

Married Jan. 11, 1871. Private, Co. G, 139th Indiana Infantry (100 days, 1864)

He died in 1940. The county historical society verified that his obituary is dated 1940 and not 1945 even though his stone has the date of 1945. He is the last Civil War Veteran buried in the county. We, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), contacted the county historical society to verify the information
