He was born on January 4, 1914 in McKinney to John and Willie Mae (Bumpass) Owens. He was raised by his grandparents, Samuel H. and Nealie Bumpass. He married Leola Jones on September 29, 1935, in Greenville, Texas.
Mr. Owens was a cook and a member of the First Church of God in Christ in McKinney.
He is survived by his wife, Leola Owens of McKinney; son, Bobby James Owens of McKinney; daughters, Nealie Jackson also of McKinney and Margaret Berry and husband, Joe of Plainview, Texas; grandchildren, Reginald Jackson, Daryl Jackson, Adrian Owens, Warren Owens, Brian Owens and Michelle Berrry; and 8 great grandchildren.
Mr. Owens was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lesley B. Owens, Jr.
