RADM USN (Ret.) 1922graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy.

"Pete" Atkeson entered USNA from Alabama and graduated in the class of 1922. He served first in the destroyer Sharkey, the battleship Oklahoma and the cruiser Raleigh. He then served ashore at the Naval Mine Depot, Yorktown, and as executive officer of USS Breese, then taught at NROTC at Yale, and did graduate work there in International Relations. He then returned to sea in the battleship Idaho and then the cruiser Marblehead, followed by command of USS Pope and duty in advanced base planning at CNO. With the outbreak of WWII he became operations officer of the Caribbean Sea Frontier organizing convoys, followed by command of the oiler Patoka in the South Atlantic, and then command of the first LSD, USS Ashland in which he took part in landings on Tarawa, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, and Saipan. Post war he commanded USS Albany, flagship in the Mediterranean, and returned to CNO as assistant director of logistics planning. After promotion to flag rank he was Commander, Destroyer Flotilla One, then commandant at Guantanamo, and later of 15th Naval District. After retiring in 1957 he was active in brokerage and real estate.
