Veteran of World War I & II, Kansas Alpha Brother Captain Lyle Armel, U.S. Navy Reserve, 53, died in Washington, DC after having a heart attack. Lyle originally enlisted in the Navy in 1917, and was commissioned an Ensign prior to the end of WWI. Following the war, he joined the Navy Reserve & enrolled at Baker University where he brought his leadership to the Kansas Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) Fraternity & graduated with the Class of 1920. Called to active duty in JUL 1941, he participated in the landings in Alaska, and subsequently participated in the operations at Okinawa as Commanding Officer, USS Telfair (APA-210). His awards include the Bronze Star. You can pay respect to Brother Armel & more than 240 additional SigEp Patriots at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
