Edward R. Alves, 79, of Naples, passed away Thursday, January 05, 2006. Born in Boston, he grew up in Gloucester, MA. He moved to Naples eight years ago from Fairfax Station, VA. Edward enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1945, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in the class of 1953. He served in WW II, as well as Vietnam. His last three years with the U.S. Marine Corps he worked in the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon and received a Presidential Citation. He retired after 20 years of service with the U. S. Marine Corps. While as a civilian he worked with the U. S. Marine Corps as Deputy Director of Human Resources and later he worked on the Board of Corrections of Naval Records as Chairman. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne; and three children, Mark Alves, Kimberly (E.R.) Bounds, and Leslie Elizabeth Alves. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Hunter M, Kane L. and Bradley S. Bounds, Shea W. Cahill, Logan E. and Riley E. Dow. Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service that will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road in Naples. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Naples Community Hospital.
