Roger Thompson, 88, died Tuesday, Oct. 30. 2007, at St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, WI. He was born on March 6, 1919, in Brooklyn, WI, son of Frank and Crystal Thompson. He was a graduate of Evansville High School in 1937. Roger married Lillie Schenk on Aug. 3, 1940, at the Little Brown Church of the Vale in Iowa, and they have enjoyed 67 years together. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Evansville. He served in the U.S. Military during World War II on the Aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex in the South Pacific Theater, where he fought in many battles, and was a member of V.F.W. post 6905 in Evansville. Roger was a member of Masonic Lodge #32 F&AM of Evansville. He was a founding member of the Evansville Golf Course, serving as the general contractor in the construction of the club house and serving on the board. He was a Badger and Packer football fan, having season tickets for several years to the Badger games in Madison. Roger's love in life was his family; especially his wife, Lillie, who he visited every day at the Evansville Manor. His dedication to taking care of her has continued for over 67 years. He loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and supporting them in their ac-tivities. Roger and Lillie spent more then 20 years wintering in Florida and enjoyed traveling cross country on family vacations. Roger and Lillie loved to ballroom dance and did so all the years they have been together. He was well known as a builder, having built and worked on many homes in the Evansville area. He will also be remembered for being a productive person and his willingness to help others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lillie of Evansville; 2 children, Rhonda (John) Norsetter of Madison and Eric Thompson of McFarland; his grandchildren: Casey and Clint Thompson, Julia Norsetter, all of Madi-son, and Claire Norsetter of Washington, D.C.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at the WARD FUNERAL HOME, Evansville, WI, with Reverend Jo Bierer of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, with Military rites by V.F.W. Post 6905 of Evansville. Friends may call on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 4 until 7 p.m., with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m. at the WARD FUNERAL HOME Evansville.
