Born in Millom, Cumberland, England. Emigrated with parents and siblings, arriving New York 18 Jun 1852. About 1855 the family left New York for Allegan county, Michigan, settling in Martin.

His father took up farming there, with nine children of his own and a 9-year-old boy by the surname Cummings. By the 1870 census William has left home but I've not found him on any other census. The only thing I'm sure he worked at were herding (before marriage) and farming/ranching (after marriage).

Rachel and William married on 24 Dec 1881 at City Hotel in Ord, Valley, NE. She was 19, he was 31. They had two daughters: Agnes in 1884 and Nora in 1888.

In Jul 1889 the family removed to San Antonio in hopes that the climate would restore health to Rachel, who was suffering from tuberculosis.

On 27 Dec 1890, William Wall was admitted to City Hospital in San Antonio diagnosed with smallpox. He lived for 11 days, dying on 7 Jan 1891, and was buried at San Fernando Cathedral Cemetery No. 1.
