Mr. Phifer served our country in the U.S. Army Strategic Air Force Pacific Theatre–WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Campbell and Minnie Ware Phifer; 2 brothers, Wendell Phifer and Menzell Phifer; and 1 sister, Doris Anthony Sellers.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bess Alice Hambright Phifer; his children, Dr. Reta Phifer, Doyt Phifer and wife Thelma, Connie Savell and husband Jim, and M.D. Phifer, Jr.; 1 granddaughter; 1 brother-in-law, Ed Sellers of Charlotte, NC; and 1 sister-in-law, Polly Phifer of Kings Mountain.
