Mr. Marriott Darlington Phifer, Sr., age 88, of 405 West Gold Street, Kings Mountain, NC, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010. A Memorial Service was held at Boyce Memorial Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
Mr. Phifer served our country in the U.S. Army Strategic Air Force Pacific Theatre–WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Campbell and Minnie Ware Phifer; 2 brothers, Wendell Phifer and Menzell Phifer; and 1 sister, Doris Anthony Sellers.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bess Alice Hambright Phifer; his children, Dr. Reta Phifer, Doyt Phifer and wife Thelma, Connie Savell and husband Jim, and M.D. Phifer, Jr.; 1 granddaughter; 1 brother-in-law, Ed Sellers of Charlotte, NC; and 1 sister-in-law, Polly Phifer of Kings Mountain.
