Evelyn J. Appel, 76, of Great Bend, died Jan. 7 at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was born July 10, 1932, at Alexander, the daughter of Henry H. and Pauline Schneider Grose. She married Cleatus Appel on Dec. 3, 1950, at Bazine. He survives. She was a secretary for Barton County Community College's Fine Arts Building for 21 years. She was a resident of Great Bend since 1954, coming from Bazine.
Mrs. Appel was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, and the Barton County Cougar Booster Club.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, of the home, include a son, Brad Appel and wife Sandra of Bartlett, Texas; two daughters, Mary Lou Appel of Aurora, Colo., and Rhonda Juel of Greensburg; three brothers, Ruben Grose of Hutchinson, Marvin Grose of Blairsville, Ga., and Alvin Grose of Great Bend; a sister, Janice Hawkinson of Ness City; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by a brother, Vaughn Grose.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, with the Rev. Gary Brooks officiant. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Donations to a memorial fund for the church may be made in care of the funeral home.
