Herbert M. Stowell,72, well known and long time resident of Guthrie & Adair counties, and a resident of Greenfield, Iowa since retiring from the farm in 1950, died Friday afternoon, Nov. 8 1957 in the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Mr. Stowell was born at Creston, Union Co. Iowa on July 4, 1885, the son of Henry DeMontreville and Laura Gilletta Deuel Stowell at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 4 days. Immediate survivors are his wife(the former Ona Jane Beaman); six sons and a daughter; Harold of Marion, Ia; Eldon, Kenneth and Donald of Greenfield, Herbert of Longmont, Colo; Ernest of Winterset; and Helen(Mrs. Arthur Hohertz)of Montrose, Calif; 14 grandchildren, and a great-grandson,John Huffman and a brother, Chester Stowell of San Pedro, Calif. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wayne, a sister, Lulu Wills and his parents. Burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery.David Lawrence of Centerville, Ia. had the honor of marrying all of Herb & Ona's living children.
