John Joseph McGovern was the 7th of 10 children born to Partick McGovern and Ann Kane. He married Annie Best in 1902 at Brooklyn, New York and they had 8 children of which 3 survived to adulthood: Catherine (Kitty)McGovern Fitzpatrick(1908-1959) John J.McGovern Jr.(1912-1949) and George Frances McGovern(1921-1997).The other children were: Winifred(1902-1903), Annie(1904-1905), Mary(1906-1907),Veronica(1916-1919) and Margaret(1918-1920). The 5 children are buried with their parents at this site in Holy Cross. The cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage and he died at Long Island Hospital in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn.
