Walter A. "Walt"/"Jake"/Jim" Weitzel of 1229 Seneca Ave., Olean, died Wednesday (Dec. 27, 1972) at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Olean, March 24, 1917, he was a son of Frank A. and Blanche Irrgang Weitzel. On Sept. 2, 1940, he was married to the former Dorothy M. Hoffmire, who survives.
Mr. Weitzel had been a warehouseman for the Market Basket Stores Inc. for 26 years prior to his retirement due to a disability in May 1972.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by three sons, Thomas F. Weitzel of Shinglehouse, Pa., James E."Skeeter" Weitzel and Frank A. "Rocky" Weitzel, both of Olean; a daughter, Miss Linda Lou Weitzel of Olean; three grandchildren; a brother, Gerald A. Weitzel of Olean; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sweet of Buffalo and Mrs. Howard V. (Julia) Anderson of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Weitzel was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 649, AFL-CIO.
Friends will be received at the Halwig Funeral Home Inc., 117 Hamilton St., Olean Today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral and committal services will be held there Saturday (Dec. 30, 1972) at 11 a.m. by the Rev. LeRoy Lundgren pastor of Showers United Methodist Church, in the absence of the Rev. William E. Gaiser, minister of Christ United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery at Olean.
